WHY MOUNT?
I have worked in the Art environment for many years in both this country and abroad where knowledge and qualification in conservation framing was a job requirement. Upon settling on Anglesey my wife and I opened and ran the Central Gallery in Llangefni for 15 years offering a specialist framing service and conservation work. Oriel Ynys Mon utilised our services during the build up prior to its its opening, and after its opening. As a point of interest John Smith and I hung the first ever exhibition in Oriel Ynys Mon.

So, why mount? I have maintained you should always frame artwork to the standard the piece requires using the appropriate materials. Although Giclee prints are not regarded as original art those produced by well known artists are often Limited Editions very expensive and require mounting to help protect your investment.
Modern Fine Art Papers are heavier than normal printing papers and like all paperborne art is prone to cockling without some form of support. To help prevent this my prints are enclosed in a hinged warm neutral coloured off-white acid-free mount which provides an air gap between print surface and glass when framed. This allows the paper to breathe which helps prevent cockling and protect against possible condensation, damp and mold build Up. It also allows the print an aesthetic appearance making it more pleasing to the eye. Some important points to remember when hanging any paperborne artwork - Even mounted work can be affected by hanging in damp environments or in direct sunlight or above radiators or fireplaces.
